Deal of the day - How to save money on your cell phone bill

We had Verizon for years, and I mean years.  I don't even want to think about how much money we paid them.  They have very good customer service, and coverage.  The only complaint we had was the cost.

We are not big users of cell phones, and they don't have a plan for that.  When our last contract was up, we started looking around at other options.

We decided to go with Straight Talk.  It is a company owned by Tracfone, and available at Walmart and online.  We have been using them for eight months now, and have no complaints.  Here is what we love about them:

  • Plans are very reasonable.  Our plan is $30 a month ($33.50 after taxes) per phone.  With that comes 1000 minutes, 1000 texts, and 30,000K for online browsing.  This is more than enough for us.  If you need more they have a $45 monthly plan for unlimited everything, and even a plan for international calls.
  • There are no contracts.  You can try them for a month.  If you don't like it, you can cancel.
  • We were able to keep our phone numbers.
  • Activating the phones could not have been any easier.
  • We have never had a problem with reception.
  • The phones are reasonably priced, and Walmart runs specials in store and online for a even better deal.  You can even keep your cell phone from another company to use (see website for details).
  • We set up our plan to automatically renew every month, so I don't have to remember to do it.
There are many other monthly plan companies to choose from.  I have heard good things about Tracfone and Boost mobile as well.  HSN and QVC offer special values of the day with great deals from all of these companies.  You can sign up to get a notice via email or text when they will be on air.
